Celebrating Ron Molen: A Visionary in Utah Mid-Century Modern Architecture
Renowned Utah architect Ron Molen helped shape the landscape of mid-century modern architecture across Salt Lake City and beyond. After graduating from the University of Utah in 1958 and earning his architect’s license in 1966, Molen began his career designing alongside Glen Ashton Lloyd before launching his own practice. Molen’s signature style emphasized large, open gathering spaces paired with more intimate, private areas like conversation pits and lofts. He called this fusion “open, free, and spontaneous space,” reflecting his belief that a true family home should be a vibrant, creative, and inspiring environment for everyday living.

This beautifully restored 1962 mid-century modern home in Salt Lake City was brought back to life by Cody Chamberlain of D3CADE Homes and Jake Halpin of Halpin Investments. The team removed a dated pitched roof, restored the original flat roofline, and replaced every major component with period-appropriate updates. Designer Victoria Chamberlain curated vintage-inspired finishes, including Japanese tile and amber glass lighting, to evoke a true “Mad Men” vibe.
Located in the sought-after Westshire neighborhood of West Valley City, this rare one-owner Ron Molen–designed home is a true mid-century modern time capsule. Built in 1973, the property remains virtually untouched, preserving its original architectural integrity. Previously featured on the 2018 Salt Lake Modern Home Tour, it's a dream find for architecture lovers.
